2017 MLA Annual Conference

Did your library put up a Black Lives Matter display? Start a community conversation on race? Or did you shrug off the idea as too political, too charged to present to your community, or perhaps even more daunting, to your boss? Or are you a librarian working in a homogeneous community, wondering how to make a case for the relevance in promoting diverse materials? In this presentation, attendees will learn from the experiences of others who have taken the path less travelled and persevered. Examples, successful and not as successful, will be shared from multiple librarians in advocating for social justice, as well as, ample time for group questions and answers to help brainstorm solutions for that program or project you've wanted to get done but can't find your way past a hurdle or two (or three!).
