Welcome to the 2017 MLA Annual Conference! This year’s theme is Radical Librarianship - the power of libraries to provide access to the truth, strengthen our community voices, create opportunity for exploration and innovation, and assist our patrons to build a better future. Libraries have always been radical, but what does Radical Librarianship mean for us today? Join us at the 2017 MLA Annual Conference to help shape that conversation!

Project Management for the Uninitiated, or Why It's Never Okay to Call Your Coworkers 'Monkeys'

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

In this session, we will focus on how project management skills can be adapted to fit any role within a library system, including administrative, technology, technical services, and branch management. We will cover both best practices and what not to do when it comes to project management within libraries. Cindy Purser will speak about how a collaborative team-based strategy was necessary when Scott County switched to a floating collection; Lisa Motschke will present on the importance of transparency in a county website redesign project; Brittany Brown will describe the community-based strategies she used to develop an open mic and arts night in her branch, as well as why threats and intimidation aren't the best motivator; and Sarah Ethier will discuss how it took organization and elements of fun and competition to make a library inventory a success, as well as why it's truly never okay to call your coworkers "monkeys."
