Welcome to the 2017 MLA Annual Conference! This year’s theme is Radical Librarianship - the power of libraries to provide access to the truth, strengthen our community voices, create opportunity for exploration and innovation, and assist our patrons to build a better future. Libraries have always been radical, but what does Radical Librarianship mean for us today? Join us at the 2017 MLA Annual Conference to help shape that conversation!

Over the past two years, Dakota County Library has been revisiting its world language cataloging practices with the goal of making resources even more visible and accessible to the communities we serve. Over the course of this project, we examined and edited summaries, contents notes, subject headings, and genre headings within our MARC records to provide improved access. The first part of this session will share a brief overview of the impetus for the changes, the implementation process, and a few takeaways. The second part of the session will comprise a structured discussion with attendees on their own experiences, ideas, and future goals for inclusive, community-focused cataloging and collection development. The goal of this session will be to share ideas, experiences and inspiration for creating collections and cataloging to serve our communities.
