Welcome to the 2017 MLA Annual Conference! This year’s theme is Radical Librarianship - the power of libraries to provide access to the truth, strengthen our community voices, create opportunity for exploration and innovation, and assist our patrons to build a better future. Libraries have always been radical, but what does Radical Librarianship mean for us today? Join us at the 2017 MLA Annual Conference to help shape that conversation!

Small But Mighty! Rural Library Staff Lightning Rounds

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Attend this session and experience four engaging lightning rounds from library staff with their feet on the ground around the state! Peter discusses his outreach efforts, working to engage students and residents, both on the UMM campus and in the community of Morris. Nate provides an insider-perspective of the background, workings and future of the independent Lake Elmo Library. Stacy shares the mindset that has allowed Waseca-Le Sueur Regional Library System to approach library services differently than traditional small town librarianship and why this is important to these communities. Nicole takes her spirit of "big ideas" from her previous position at the Gilbert Public Library and puts it into action in her new position. She shares her experiences working these ideas into collaboration opportunities within her new community. Steve will talk about projects big and small, and the impact they have on a library and a community. Featuring: Genealogy page at Iron Range Research Center, finding Madonna, bringing Audio Books to NE Minnesota, sparking gay pride in a small town, working the liquor store angle, and, if time permits, why it's important to get outside the library. We've designed the session to allow time for questions!
