Welcome to the 2017 MLA Annual Conference! This year’s theme is Radical Librarianship - the power of libraries to provide access to the truth, strengthen our community voices, create opportunity for exploration and innovation, and assist our patrons to build a better future. Libraries have always been radical, but what does Radical Librarianship mean for us today? Join us at the 2017 MLA Annual Conference to help shape that conversation!

Would Trader Joe's Hire You?: Lessons from the Best Retailers

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Who doesn't love to go to Trader Joe's, Nordstrom, Caribou, Apple, or any of a number of other retail establishments? Have our patrons come to expect the same level of service and experience in our libraries? Can these retailers, who spend tons of money on marketing, development, and leadership teach us anything? In this presentation we will engage customer service, displaying and merchandising, team building, and other best practices from the best retailers around. Session participants will explore the team building process and hiring practices that Trader Joe's uses to provide such a successful experience. We will discuss the decision behind product selection, how to merchandise to improve selection, and how to decrease decision fatigue of our patrons. We will describe the policies and procedures used to create a playful and cheerful workplace environment that ensure longevity of employees and a great atmosphere for patrons. In other words, we will show you how to transform services by applying best practices.
